English Dictation 2004

The 2nd Final of the English Dictation „ For the Golden Pen of International House”

The second edition of the English Dictation Competition had its final on the 29th May in Toruń, in Dwór Artusa. More than 200 students took part in it! International House Bydgoszcz and Toruń organized the competition, under the patronage of International House World Organisation, in cooperation with the University of Westminster. The winner was Przemysław Woda from Bydgoszcz! Michał Zaleski, the Mayor of Toruń, presented the prizes.

This year, thanks to the medial patronage of the 1st Program of the Polish Radio the event was nationwide.

Mariusz Czerkawski and Jerzy Dudek encouraged taking part in the Dictation. The preliminary and final text of the Dictation was recorded for us especially by a famous British actor Alan Rickman.

Both texts were written by Professor Jack Lonergan from the Applied Linguistics Division of the Westminster University. The Professor with Romuald Poślednik, Director of International House Toruń conducted the final of the Dictation, and our outstanding athlete Sebastian Chmara conducted some sports competitions during checking of the texts. The prizes here included tickets for a football match Poland – England in Chorzów sponsored by PZPN (Polish Association of Football) and tickets for the Sports World Cup in Bydgoszcz sponsored by the City Office of Bydgoszcz).

Almost 2000 persons took part in the Dictation. The organizers would like to address special thanks to directors of schools and teachers – almost 100 took part in the competition.

The English Dictation was widely advertised and reported by such media as: TV3, Polish Radio Program 1, Radio PiK, Nowości and Express Bydgoski.

Prizes!

The main prize – two-week linguist grant at the University of Westminster in London.
The second prize – two-week language course in International House London.
The third prize - two-week language course in International House Torquay.

Additional prizes include one-week stays in our British twin towns sponsored by mayors of Perth, Swindon and Bedford for the best contestants from Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Włocławek.
